Nez Fights for AZ Families as Data Center Debate Exposes Rep. Crane’s Allegiance to Billionaires
FLAGSTAFF, AZ - New reporting in the Washington Sun highlighted Jonathan Nez’s plan to claw back tax breaks for data centers in Congress. Jonathan Nez is ready to fight for Arizona families while Congressman Eli Crane is too beholden to billionaire interests to stand up for his constituents.
From the Washington Sun:
In Arizona, Jonathan Nez, a Democrat running for a GOP-leaning Arizona seat, is pledging to claw back ‘the billions in tax breaks’ that Republican Rep. Eli Crane ‘gave the data centers,’” read the report in the Washington Sun. “In an interview, the former Navajo president said the issue has touched a nerve with voters because ‘the folks that are pushing data centers are large corporations’ and ‘there’s a negative perspective on the billionaires and the wealthy, the elite in this country.’
“Some of these data centers that are being built right now, folks didn’t know about it, and now once they find out what’s happening, they feel like they’ve been lied to,” [Nez] said.
Just last week Nez announced his plan to offer legislation clawing back data center tax breaks as one of his first bills in Congress. Nez is the first public figure to call for clawing back the massive tax breaks. Nez’s legislation would direct the billions in tax breaks Congressman Crane and Congress gave to data centers in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act towards a working class tax cut and new technology that helps conserve our precious water.
Crane, on the other hand, continues to work for the country’s powerful and elite. He hands out massive tax breaks to large corporations and billionaires that want to build data centers despite Americans being starkly against them.
