Eli Crane Votes Against Making Housing More Affordable for Arizonans

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - Today the House of Representatives passed historic and overwhelmingly bipartisan housing legislation that aims to increase supply and make housing more affordable, but Rep. Eli Crane was just one of a small handful of members to vote against the legislation. Jonathan Nez, former President of the Navajo Nation and candidate for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, issued the following statement in response:

“I am glad that Congress worked in a bipartisan way to make housing more affordable, including barring private equity groups from buying large amounts of single family homes, but I am disappointed that once again Rep. Crane has voted against lowering costs for his constituents.

Rep. Crane seems fine with housing only being accessible to the elites in this country, who are comfortable in their multiple homes and mega-mansions, while the skyrocketing costs of housing put it out of reach for so many.

Arizona’s 2nd District needs a representative that fights for everyone, not just the rich and powerful.”

Unfortunately, his refusal to help address the spiraling costs of housing is not a one- off, Rep. Crane has voted repeatedly to raise costs on his constituents:

• Crane voted repeatedly to rubber stamp the disastrous tariff policies that are raising costs on Arizona families and businesses across Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District – costing the average household $1,000 a year.  

• Crane voted for the largest Medicaid cuts in history – threatening the closure of three rural hospitals in Winslow, Page and Globe, the most of any Arizona Congressional District. Almost 27,000 Arizonans in this district are expected to lose Medicaid.

• Crane voted to skyrocket health care costs for Arizonans – repeatedly voting to let health care premiums increase and jeopardizing health care coverage for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans. Health care premiums in Arizona have soared since Crane took his votes.

• Crane voted to slash food assistance – cutting coverage for 25,000 Arizonans all while food prices rise across the state.  14% of households in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District depend on SNAP to keep food on their tables in this district that already struggles with food deserts.

• Crane supports the war in Iran that’s jacking up gas, diesel and fertilizer prices – making life harder for Arizonans paying at the pump and harming farmers. Gas prices in Arizona are among the highest in the nation with a gallon of gas costing well over $4 in the 2nd Congressional District.
